In order to standardize and improve the clinical skills of medical students studying in China and cultivate qualified international medical talents, on March 9, 2024, Professor Li Xiaomin from the Clinical Experimental Teaching Center of the Affiliated Hospital of the School of Clinical Medicine conducted an SP training for 4 non medical teachers from SIEC at the Clinical Experimental Teaching Center of Shunqing Campus.

The full name of SP is Standardized Patients. After specialized standardized and systematic training, SPs are able to accurately mimic the symptoms of corresponding diseases and play the role of patients according to scripts. These simulated patients can accurately mimic the symptoms of corresponding cases, while medical students act as "quasi doctors". Based on the symptoms exhibited by these SPs, they inquire about medical history, judge the condition, and "quasi doctors" make the correct clinical diagnosis.

The training content of this session includes an overview of consultation and physical examination, SP introduction and job requirements, basic performance training, script training, and simulation rehearsals. Through these courses, SPs can understand the content and process of consultation, utilize performance training to awaken their performance potential, and truly understand the role of SP in clinical teaching and the basic requirements of SP in the consultation process.

During the training class, the SPs who participated in the training had a high enthusiasm for learning, carefully studied the scripts, and actively participated in the training with full passion. During the simulation rehearsal, Teacher Li Xiaomin provided guidance and feedback on SP's body movements, facial expressions, and disease description.

The significance of SP teaching lies in training medical students in doctor-patient communication skills, promoting humanistic care, enhancing their enthusiasm and authenticity in participating in practical teaching, and further improving the effectiveness of clinical practice teaching. Through SP assessment, students can change the drawbacks of using written tests instead of clinical skills assessment in the past, and significantly improve the quality of teaching.
