The Dragon Boat Festival approaches midsummer, wormwood and zongzi are rich in flavor. In order to let the international students appreciate the charm of Nanchong cuisine and learn the Dragon Boat Festival culture, the International Education Exchange Institute led the international students to participate in the “Learning to Cook Nanchong Cuisine, Delicacy Comes To Every Family” activity. The event was held on the afternoon of June 11 at Meiyu Baima Lake Street in Jialing District. The International students from China West Normal University were also invited to participate in the event.

At the event, Chinese culinary masters Bai Furong and Professor Li Wei taught three classic "Nanchong dishes": Jialing crispy fish, Yanshan Bawang buckle and Mapo tofu. After demonstrating the first two dishes on site, Professor Bai Furong led two international students from our school to learn how to make Mapo Tofu. Under the guidance of Professor Bai, they successfully produced the classic Sichuan cuisine "Mapo Tofu". The International students from our school also expressed their love for Jialing Crispy Fish and Mapo Tofu in an interview. International students Ensi and Li Mo said joyfully: “Not only did we taste three kinds of food at this event, we also learned how to make Mapo tofu. We will try to make it by ourselves.”

As the Dragon Boat Festival is approaching, The international students also tasted zongzi and experienced the folk customs of the Dragon Boat Festival. Combined with the knowledge of 24 solar terms, the international students also have a better understanding of the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival and relevant Chinese traditional customs, thus deepening their understanding of Chinese culture.

Different lands produce similar food; Different cultures show the same love. By participating in the activities of tasting, making and celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival, we hope that the international students will be deeply impressed by the Chinese food and the Dragon Boat Festival, and then fall in love with Chinese food.
